“Faith is the currency of the Kingdom of Heaven…with it you can buy prosperity, health and happiness”
What?? And this was from a Southern Baptist chaplain on post! I guess he must be listening to David Yonggi Cho. Not trying to sound overly dramatic, but I am beginning to believe that anyone who actually believes that has not really read the Bible. Sure the read the Bible, but they read it through the eyes of some other preacher or commentator. Or the have read it and have had the commentator or their seminary prof tell them what it means.
We have to get to the point to where we approach Bible reading as a communal activity with the Holy Spirit versus a Bible Study. When we open the Bible we need to pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal to us what it says, and not rely on another man’s interpretation. Of course, use a commentary to make sure you aren’t a whacko!
A sermon has to be a “discussion” or a pouring out of what the Holy Spirit has told you, or placed in your soul versus a book report which most sermons seem to be.
